Dental veneers, also called porcelain veneers, are wafer-thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth to change their color, shape or size.
Veneers can be made from porcelain or a resin composite material. Here at our office, we use Lumineers porcelain veneers because they resist stains better than resin and mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth.
How Can Veneers Help?
Veneers can greatly improve the appearance of your smile. If your teeth are discolored & stained, misshapen, crooked or if you have gaps, then veneers may be the solution for you.
Are Veneers Painful?
Lumineers porcelain veneers is a minimally invasive technique that requires no shots or aggressive drilling. Our veneers are much thinner than others, about as thin as a contact lens. Other veneers may be a little bit thicker and typically require anesthesia shots to minimize pain or aggressive drilling to reshape your teeth. And because Lumineers does not require the same preparation as other veneers, there is no required use of temporary veneers.
Will Veneers Work For Everyone?
Not everyone is suited for veneers. If you are suffering from gum disease or tooth decay, you need to consider other options to improve your mouth health. Patients who grind or clench their teeth should also consider other alternatives as this can crack or chip your veneers.
With proper aftercare and good dental hygiene, veneers are an investment that can last for many years. If you are interested in learning more, discuss it with your dentist at your next appointment. They will be happy to discuss veneers and answer your questions to see if veneers are the right option for you.
