Holiday Dental CareWith Thanksgiving now behind us, it’s all about Christmas and the four weeks leading up to it. This usually means food, festivities, and more food. And for most of us, the holidays is the time we struggle the most with healthy food options.

But have no fear, we have some tips for you to help see you through, and if you still have concerns, feel free to make your end of year appointment for your dental checkup with Dr. Bill Baxley in Beaumont, TX.

Limit Your Wine

Wine is nice to enjoy occasionally, but don’t overindulge yourself. Remember that wine and even soda are acidic to your teeth and can cause “dry mouth”, which will wear down the enamel of your teeth.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Water is always the best drink to enjoy. With all the festivities, you can easily find sodas, coffees, wine and liquor, but don’t forget your water intake. Among the many reasons to drink water, it will wash away food particles & bacteria that can get trapped and it will prevent dry mouth.

Choose your Desserts & Appetizers Wisely

Cakes and candies are readily available wherever we go. Even grocery stores will prominently display their holiday goodies at the front of the store. But try to limit yourself. Opt for a fruit or vegetable tray when possible. Even fruit can be acidic and sweet, but it is still a healthier option.

No Excuses on Brushing and Flossing

Don’t allow yourself to get swept up in the chaos of the holidays and forget to brush and floss. It is just as important to do this now as it is the other 11 months of the year.

Finally, does your insurance cover an annual dental checkup or cleaning that you have not taken advantage of yet?

Call your dentist today to get that appointment scheduled before the year end. It’s no better time than the present to start improving your dental habits.

From Dr. Baxley and his staff, we wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas!
